Browser extension
Last updated October 2, 2026
MoatKey for Chrome is out now on the Chrome Web Store, and it also installs in other Chrome-based browsers such as Brave and Opera. The Microsoft Edge version is in review at Microsoft Edge Add-ons.
Three ways to open it
- Popup: click the MoatKey icon in the toolbar. It shows logins for the page you're on, with Fill buttons, a search box (Search this Castle) and a Lock button. At the bottom: Password generator, Full Castle view and Open in side panel.
- Full Castle view: MoatKey in a browser tab. This is where you add and edit items, manage Castles and change settings.
- Side panel: MoatKey docked beside the page, where your browser supports it. Use the ☰ MoatKey menu for + New Castle, the tools, Lock and Sign out, or Open full view.
You can't add items from the popup. Open the full Castle view for that.
Finding things in the full view
- Area tabs at the top of the sidebar: Personal, Family and Work. They only sort your Castles.
- Your Castles, each marked Private or Shared, and + New Castle.
- Tools:
- Generator – passwords and passphrases
- Unlock & security – master password, recovery kit, security keys, phone unlock, how long MoatKey stays unlocked, and account deletion
- Import
- Export & backup
- Secure Drop
- Plan & billing
- At the bottom: Signed in as your email, with Lock and Sign out.
For the open Castle you also get Members, Recently deleted, Castle settings and Activity. Each one only appears if your role allows it (see Roles).
Locking
Choose Lock any time. To change how long MoatKey stays unlocked, open Tools → Unlock & security → Stay unlocked and pick Lock after:
- Lock when I close MoatKey
- 5 minutes of inactivity
- 15 minutes of inactivity (the default)
- 1 hour of inactivity
The key is kept in browser memory only. It is forgotten when the browser closes, when you press Lock, or when you sign out.
To unlock faster, add a security key or passkey or approve on your phone.
Keyboard shortcuts
- Alt+Shift+F: open MoatKey to fill this page.
- Alt+Shift+S: save the login on this page to MoatKey.
Your browser lets you change these on its extension shortcuts page.
Copying passwords
When you copy a password or code, MoatKey reminds you to clear your clipboard after pasting. The extension doesn't clear it for you.
