Frequently asked questions
Can MoatKey see my passwords?
No. Everything is encrypted on your device before it is uploaded, and your master password never leaves your device. Our server stores only encrypted data.
Can you reset my master password?
No. Nobody at MoatKey has it, so we can't reset it. Use the Recovery Key in your Emergency Kit: choose Forgot master password? on the sign-in screen. How recovery works.
Do I need a paid plan to share?
No. The Free plan includes 1 shared Castle for up to 3 people. Family adds unlimited shared Castles for up to 6 people. Plans.
I accepted an invitation but can't see the Castle.
An owner or Castle Admin has to confirm you on their Members screen. Nobody is added automatically. Why.
What is a safety number?
A short number that proves you're sharing with the real person, not someone who swapped their key on the way. Compare it on a call or in person. Safety numbers.
Does MoatKey fill passwords on Android?
Not yet. On Android you copy and paste; MoatKey clears the clipboard after 20 seconds if you stay in the app. The browser extension fills sign-in forms when you ask it to.
If I buy a plan on Android, does it work in the browser?
Yes. A plan bought in the browser or in Google Play works everywhere you sign in to the same MoatKey account.
How do I cancel?
If you paid in the browser, use Plan & billing → Manage billing. If you paid on Android, cancel in Google Play. Details.
Who can see the activity log?
Only the Castle's owner and its Castle Admins.
Where can I get MoatKey?
MoatKey is out now on Google Play and the Chrome Web Store, and it also installs in other Chrome-based browsers such as Brave and Opera. The Microsoft Edge version is in review, and the iPhone app is coming.
