Install

Get MoatKey on Google Play. Sign in with the same email and master password you use in the browser.

Finding your way around

  • The main screen shows the open Castle. If your Castles are in more than one area, you also see area tabs (Personal, Family, Work).
  • Under the Castle: + Add item, and for shared Castles Members. Owners and Castle Admins also see Recently deleted. Everyone sees Castle settings.
  • Further down: Password generator and New shared Castle.
  • Tap Settings (top right) for:
    • Fingerprint or face unlock
    • Master password & recovery – master password, Emergency Kit, encrypted backup, delete account
    • Paired browsers – approve unlocks in a browser from your phone
    • Plan & billing
    • Import passwords
    • Restore from backup
    • Secure Drop
    • Lock MoatKey now and Sign out

When the app locks

MoatKey on Android locks after five minutes without activity and whenever the app goes to the background. There is no setting to change this.

Fingerprint or face unlock

  1. Make sure a fingerprint or face is set up in your phone's settings.
  2. In MoatKey, open Settings and turn on Fingerprint or face unlock. (MoatKey may also offer it after you unlock: Skip the master password next time?)
  3. Next time, tap Unlock with followed by your fingerprint or face (the button names what your phone has). Use master password instead is always there.

MoatKey still asks for your master password every 14 days, and after it changes. Why?

Copying passwords

There is no Android autofill in MoatKey yet, so you copy and paste. When you copy a password or code, MoatKey clears it from the clipboard after 20 seconds if you stay in the app. If you leave, MoatKey clears it when you come back, if it is still there. On newer Android versions, copied passwords are hidden from the clipboard preview.

Screenshots

MoatKey blocks screenshots and hides its screen in the recent-apps view, to keep passwords from ending up in your photos.

Only on Android

  • Scanning an authenticator QR code with the camera (Authenticator codes).
  • Show QR to join on a Wi-Fi item: another phone scans it to join the network. It hides after 60 seconds.
  • Approving browser unlocks (Approve-on-phone unlock).

Some things are only in the browser extension: filling and saving logins on websites, the CSV export, and buying the Team plan.
